Three’s Company Source: Student
Weekly Did you Know ? In 1985, the first outdoor paintball field opened in England. They’re not very big, but there are three of them and it is undeniable that each of their hearts beats to the hip-hop beat. The guys from Big 3 have taken the explosion in hip-hop and carved a name for themselves as Thailand’s youngest hip-hop act. While they may be young, Chinawut Indracusin (Chin), Rittidej Rittichoo (Jay) and Guy Ellis (Guy) have taken to their music the way a professor takes to books. Along with a top-rated album, We Are Big 3, the young guys show off their hip-hop skills every chance they get. Every time they move, speak or pose for photographs you can be sure that these guys are trying hard to look the part. But while all three share a personal and professional love of all things hip-hop, each spends his private time in a very different way. Let’s take a look at what these young rappers are up to when they step away from the mic. Chin “There is a board that has two boots on it. You put your feet in these boots and hold a cable ski and try to ride the wakeboard on water,” Chin explained. “Another kind way to play it is to have a boat drag you along.” Chin said that he has loved wakeboarding ever since the first time he tried it with his father in Phuket. “It was fun,” he said. “When I fell down in water, all I had to do was to swim, and I love swimming.” Even though it is fun, Chin has had his fair share of accidents. One time, Chin and his father were being pulled along the cable ski when Chin decided to pass his father. But rather than smoothly sailing by, the two collided and Chin took home eight stitches as a result. Chin admitted that the accident scared him and he said he stayed off the water for a full two months. But soon enough he was back at it; and soon enough he was back on the doctor’s table. This time he tried a trick and ended up with the board slashing his eye and sending him for another three stitches. He took another year off after that, but Chin said he has recently gotten back into the sport and likes to wakeboard at Bueng Tago in Bang Na. Injuries or not, you can be sure that Chin will continue to make waves, both on stage and off. Jay Even though he has only been at it for a few months, Jay is good enough at Khon dancing that he has taken part in a performance for of HRH Princess Somsawali. But at first, Jay wasn’t so sure about the hobby. “When my mother told me to practice Khon, I was surprised,” he said. “At first, I felt the performances were a bit slow, but after I did it, I liked it. The performance requires strong muscles and nice movement.” Jay has since landed an important role in the Khon performance Ramakian. He plays the most powerful ogre, Thossakan, a role he said he was picked for because of his height. His height also serves him well while playing basketball. He plays the center position, which is normally reserved for the tallest player. “I like playing center,” Jay said. “I think it is more fun than other positions.” Guy Ellis (Guy) And while getting hit with a paintball can hurt a bit, Guy said it isn’t so bad. “When I played for the first time, I admit that I was afraid that it would be painful,” he said. “But when I tried it, it was great and not that painful.” Most important, Guy said, is that paintball players wear the proper equipment. A padded suit can help with any pain, but head protection is the most important. “I think the headgear is the most important equipment since you could become blind if ball accidentally hits your eyes.” Despite the danger, Guy said that he really enjoys the thrill of the battle. “It is the only time that we can shoot our friends and they won’t be angry,” he said. He shoots his family sometimes as well, but Guy said he prefers playing with friends. “My dad is big, so he is shot very easily,” he said. “That’s why I prefer to play with my friends.” If you have any comments about Big3 or their songs, then please post them below:
