Small talk Did you know?: Before going solo, Palmy sang the chorus for Theerapat Sadjakul's song "Ru Tua Wa Maidee Po (I know I am not good enough)." After the huge success of her self-titled debut album in 2001, Palmy is ready to tear up the charts again with her sophomore album Stay. Her looks remains the same and her magnificent voice still shines through, much to the pleasure of her fans everywhere. Even though she is Thai-Belgian, this young superstar, who had been studying in Sydney, Australia, can still belt out Thai tunes clearly in her own unique style. Palmy took time out from her busy schedule to answer some of our questions about life overseas, her music and being a Thai superstar.
Palmy: Nothing. I believe that any artist can express themselves the way they want to. Any artist who creates his or her own works must know that their work reflects who they really are. Student Weekly: What's the main difference between your debut album Palmy and your sophomore album Stay? Palmy: On the Palmy album, it was a way to experiment with new ideas. Stay on the other hand is a confirmation of all the stuff we did in Palmy. We added more fancy melodies. If you listen carefully, you will hear many small background sounds added into each song. However, on the track "Stay" we didn't add too many instruments because we wanted it to feel real. Student Weekly: If you had to dress sexy like some other pop stars, which style would you choose, Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears? Palmy: I can't imagine myself dressing sexy. And if I did, I would never look as beautiful as these two girls. Student Weekly: If you had to do a duet with another singer, which singer would you sing with? Palmy: P'Ome (Chatri Khongsuwan). Student Weekly: What is your favorite Karaoke song? Palmy: I like to sing "Torn" by Natalie Embruglia. Student Weekly: We hear that visiting art galleries was one of your favourite activities in Sydney. What's the difference between Thai art galleries and the galleries in Sydney? Palmy: I often visited the galleries when I took a course in visual art while I was studying in Sydney. It helped me to improve my work. I have visited very few small galleries here in Thailand. The difference is in Sydney, there is more variety of exhibited objects. In Thailand we can see famous works only from books, but in Sydney, we can actually see the real works of world-renowned artists. Student Weekly: When you were in Sydney, what nationality did they think you were? Palmy: People thought I was Farang or Arabic, but nobody thought I was Thai. Student Weekly: So in which language do you dream? Palmy: Mostly in Thai, but if I dream about my classmates in Sydney I dream in English. Student Weekly: In a popular TV commercial, you joined a whale-watching group. How was it ? Palmy: We travelled to the southern-most part of New Zealand. The trip took a very long time, but it was worth it. I remembered the first day of shooting. Most of the crew including myself became seasick. We had to go ashore to recover. The cameraman was especially overcome by the seasickness, because he had to film us. Anyways, everyone was still in a cheerful mood. I saw whales, seals and a group of dolphins. I was really impressed when a whale swam up close to our ship. Student Weekly: Which country would you most want to visit? What country have you visited and liked the most? Palmy: Vietnam is the place that I want to visit. I liked China the most so far. China is a country that is very nationalistic. Everything is unique and manifests a sense of being Chinese its creed, way of life, culture and art. Student Weekly: Where do you want to stay now? Palmy: I want to stay home.
