Play time Another solid indie band breaks into the mainstream Playground, like Scrubb and Vacation, are another indie band that took part in the Fat Music Festival and received a warm welcome from audiences. They easily sold 500 copies of their promo package, consisting of two singles, “Kung-Fu” and “Ploi Wang (Let It Go).” Following this encouraging response, the band has finally managed to release its first album, Cubic World. GOOD COMBINATION “Kung-Fu” and “Super Hero” are fast-paced songs that you can rock your head to. Meaningful “Kwam Fun Kwam Suk (Dreams and Happiness)” is sure to light up your gloomy day. And let’s not forget to mention the catchy, easy-listening number “Attayasai Dee (Good Natured)” and “Ploi Wang (Let It Go),” the popular debut single. Krittekorn Pornsathit (Tik), the lead vocalist, composed all of the songs on the album. His talent as a songwriter is unquestionable seeing as Cubic World has already yielded three hit songs. However, it is his ability to “sing” that still has to be proven. Some say that his voice is annoying and that he should sing when he sobers up. However, many people, including me, are drawn to his drunken singing style. If you like Burin from Groove Rider or Pod from Modern Dog, who also sing like they’re sloshed, you shouldn’t have a problem with Playground. Cubic World is a fine work from this talented band. If the idea of good-looking singers who would be better off being models crooning their one-hit-wonders has become intolerable for you, Cubic World is a quality album that can rescue you from drowning in the mainstream.
